Attention to all tourists, hipster dipsters and shopaholics! This week’s blog post is specially dedicated to you as we will bring you to a place that you surely going to love it.

Central Market, Kuala Lumpur
Welcome to Central Market, everybody! Hailed as one of the main tourist attractions in the city of Kuala Lumpur, it is famous for some good reasons.

According to its website, Central Market Kuala Lumpur began life as a wet market in 1888, and was built by Yap Ah Loy, the city’s Chinese Kapitan. It served as a prominent landmark in colonial and modern-day Kuala Lumpur. When it was relocated in the 1980s, the Malaysian Heritage Society successfully petitioned against the demolition of the building, and it was subsequently declared a centre for Malaysian arts, culture and handicraft.

In 2004, the Kha Seng Group acquired this iconic building. Since its takeover, Central Market Kuala Lumpur and its accompanying Annexe have been transformed into an award-winning tourist attraction and shopping destination, while preserving the significance in showcasing the nation’s arts, culture and heritage.

The company invested RM10 million in extensive upgrading work without compromising the market’s unique charm and character. Many positive changes were introduced including the initiation of zoned shopping areas and the upgrading of stalls and kiosks; this resulted in over 100,000 square feet of retail space.

Inside of the complex
If you are eyeing for things to take back home as memories, there are a wide diversity of high quality
souvenirs can be found here! Just name it - from shawls, key chains, Malaysia t-shirt, handcrafts, songket, pewter goods, and even batiks. The prices are quite affordable, and you can also do some good bargains with the shop owners.

Sometimes, there are also traditional dance performance at the main stage and the best part is, you can watch it for freeeee.

If you are looking to grab a bite to eat after tired of shopping, there is always a food arena for you to fill in your tummy with delicious food! Did we just say food? Oh yes we did! The choices of local cuisine here is quite good, and it is very recommended to try Melaka dishes at Restoran Precious as we have seen a lot good reviews about it. For your information, the food court is located at the second floor of the building.

The place is fully air-conditioned, so you need not to worry about getting sweats when walking around inside the whole building haha.

For your information, there are also lots of beautiful graffitis along the esplanade side beside the dirty Klang river that is situated just next to the market! Though it sounds smelly to you, but I bet it will be so worth it. People tend to go there just because they want to take beautiful shots, maybe for the sake of their photography and Instagram, or perhaps they want to just have fun. Have a look at these pictures!

How to get there?

By public transport : The easiest way is to take the Putra LRT train from KL Sentral and get off at Pasar Seni LRT Station. As you exit the station, you will be able to see the market directly opposite the main road, and the distance is just a 5 minutes walk.

It is very recommended to take public transport as you will face a massive traffic jam in this metropolitan Kuala Lumpur if you use your own transportation. Besides, there are only limited parkings available so you just have to take your chances there. Use public transport, everybody!! Cheaper, and you can even save the environment!
